Flatirons Alumnae Chapter History

On August 29, 2000, a group of Thetas met in the Broomfield home of Julie Redson-Smith to discuss the possibility of beginning a new Theta alumnae group. The women voted unanimously to become a club. The first order of business was deciding a name, and “Flatirons” quickly won approval for these striking mountains form a backdrop for the entire area. A slate of officers was nominated and voted upon. Stacy Hayes, ADO District VIII, installed the new officers. The Flatirons Alumnae Club of Kappa Alpha Theta was launched!
Karen Olson was the first president, Louise Geil was treasurer and Jessie Thompson was Program Committee Chair. A newsletter was mailed in September followed by the group’s kick-off event, a very successful potluck. Charter membership dues was $10.00, followed by regular dues of $18.70 (1870 is the date of the founding of KAO) due April 1, 2001. Charter members totaled 55 women, with over half of them from the former Boulder Alumnae Chapter.
For its first year and a half the Flatirons group remained a club. Due to changes voted at the 2002 Grand Convention, most clubs such as Flatirons had the opportunity to be chartered as an alumnae chapter. On November 22, 2002, the club was installed as Flatirons Alumnae Chapter.
